Keeping memories

17 Sep, 2003 05:23 PM
It looks like there will be a new craze in the form of scrapbooking sweeping the town, with Lightning Ridge resident Debbie Willis heading the trend.

Ms Willis, who has recently become a representative of Creative Memories, a large scrapbooking supplies company run on a pyramid selling system, held scrapbooking classes and workshops at the bowling club on the weekend and the craft proved to be very popular with the participants.

Scrapbooking is an increasingly well-known craft which involves mounting, photographs and other memorabilia in special acid free albums that protect against the degradation that time often bestows on such things ie yellowing and brown spots.

An added advantage of scrapbooking is that it encourages people to keep a written record of their precious memories.

"Most people have pictures in their family photos that are of unknown people and places," Ms Willis said.

"Once the family member that owned those photos has died, there's almost no chance of being able to find those photos."

The albums that scrapbookers produce can range from simple and elegant to wild and/or elaborate. The final product is only limited by the creator's imagination and personal taste.

With a number of the workshop participants already hooked, expect to see a wave of workshops in town.
