"I firmly believe (Australia) is the best kept secret in the world.
"So few people understand and appreciate just what a wonderful place this is," he said.
Mr Murphy said after travelling to dozens of countries throughout the world he has realised Australia truly was unique.
"I've been blessed to have travelled to more than 90 different airports... but always when I come back here I know I'm coming back to the best country in the world.
"We have a country of people willing to give it a fair go, a country united in its very diversity, culture, opinions and beliefs, a country with such a strong national spirit and a country having a big impact on the world at home and overseas for all the right reasons."
As well as all Australia's achievements Mr Murphy also spoke about its challenges for the future, including immigration, environmental and youth issues.
"As we go into the future we continue to be proud of our national heritage and achievements. We stand up as ever we have for what's decent and right, we dream big and go for it, recognising all significant people."
