Goodooga Central School was honoured with a major NSW award for excellence in literacy and numeracy on Tuesday.
The school consisting of 127 students has received $10,000 for significantly improving students' performances in the Basic Skills Test and the English Language and Literacy Assessment.
Goodooga Central School had also recorded a 100 per cent increase during three years in the number of students staying on for post-compulsory schooling.
The school's principal Dr Ray Bale said their literacy and numeracy programs were tightly linked to activities the kids were interested in which were connected to future employment opportunities and post-school life.
The Enterprise Education Program provided a broad range of subjects including yabbie farming, hydroponic gardening, paper making, running a canteen, small engine maintenance, shearing and shedhand work, woolclassing, information technology and business services.
"These courses equip students with the qualifications and confidence to travel to other towns to work or set up a business within Goodooga," Dr Bale said.
Goodooga Central School was among 17 government, Catholic and independent schools honoured at the NSW National Literacy and Numeracy Week Awards.
