Health directories launched

19 Aug, 2004 12:45 PM
The Far West Area Health Service (FWAHS), in conjunction with its 12 health advisory councils, has launched a series of local Health Services Directories for far western NSW.

A consultant compiled the directories with feedback from each local community and gives contact details for a range of local, State and national health services.

Titles in the series include Lightning Ridge, Broken Hill, Tibooburra, Bourke, Wanaaring, Enngonia, Walgett, Carinda, Ivanhoe, Menindee, Wilcannia, White Cliffs, Brewarrina, Weilmoringle, Wentworth, Dareton, Pooncarie, Goodooga, Collarenebri, Balranald and Euston.

"Despite living in a very remote part of Australia, residents in the far west have access to a wide range of health services," FWAHS deputy administrator Linda Cutler said.

"These Health Services Directories will help people in each of our communities to find out about what services are available locally as well as at the end of a telephone with services coming from across NSW and Australia,"

The directories contain a range of information including aged care services, Aboriginal health, disability and support services, counselling services and hospital services, with important emergency information readily accessible on the cover.

"Not only are there a range of health services available at the local level, but often people are unaware of the support services available to us all via the telephone. These directories will hopefully help people to better access information and assistance on issues like breastfeeding, alcohol, and domestic violence to name a few," Ms Cutler said.
