Grant to help opal fountain flow soon

The Lightning Ridge Improvement Beautification Committee (IBC) has received a much needed boost in the way of $2000 from the ANZ Bank and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal in a presentation last Wednesday.

The grant is to assist with the construction of an eight-panel mural fountain constructed from opal, which will be the centerpiece of the community garden, currently under construction at the Lions Park.

IBC President Margaret Mansfield said, "we are very thankful to receive the seeds grant as we will now be able to start on the central water feature. We will be looking to the community for further funding and approaching local artist groups for their input into the design of the mural. It's a fantastic opportunity for us to complete our community garden."

ANZ Regional Manager for NSW North West Rural Market, Bruce McQualter, said the program was particularly pleased to help the committee with its garden project as it will benefit the whole community and help to bring more tourists to town.
