The Lightning Ridge Improvement and Beautification Committee has received grant from Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.
The $1240 grant will be used to build a pair of entrance pillars to the garden project at the Lion's Park.
We were told by a shire official that there would be money in the budget this year for a water reticulation system, so we hope to start in the new year on the gateway pillars, with the school and the public involved by each person adding their own rock to the pillars.
We are also hosts to the work for the dole program in conjunction with the tourist information centre. These people do a great job under the supervision of Jim Morrison.
The last group was responsible for the garden outside the information centre with the help of the IBC, and the putting in of the post and rails which define the fossicking and parking areas.
They also propagated plants for the gardens and I have a large selection now grown waiting for the water to eventuate
The IBC is holding its annual general meeting today at the Bowling Club at 7.30 pm.
People are welcome to come and give us some new ideas for the gardens and other projects.
We have asked the council about collecting water off Bill O'Brien Way to form a recreational lake for canoeing, yabbying and maybe a koala sanctuary in the middle.
We heard there were other people interested in a development by catching this water.
If that's the case please come along to our meeting.
