Grand Prix racer to take up honour

Jeffery Sayle has been named the Walgett Shire’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2010, which will see him address the crowd and nominees at the Collarenebri Bowling Club on Tuesday January 26.

Mr Sayle is well known for his career as a former Australian Grand Prix motorcycle road racer between 1979 and 1982, while appearing again in 1989.

He raced throughout the 350cc Nations Grand Prix, 250cc Australian Grand Prix and even competed in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy events.

His best year was in 1980 when he finished 350cc World Championship series in fifth place.

The Walgett Shire Australia Day celebrations will kick off at 8.30am for breakfast before the ceremony starts at 10am.
