With a whitewash finish and some tender loving care, a holy message has arisen in Lightning Ridge after two residents, Eva and Pauline, took it upon themselves to erect a copy of the Ten Commandments to share with the wider community.
The messages have been taken from the bible chapters Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 28, outlining the Commandments and Code of Law.
The story of how these two ladies found themselves undertaking this big project has been years in the making and one of enlightenment.
In 2001 Eva and Pauline left Melbourne, Victoria, starting six years of travelling in Australia that eventually led them to Lightning Ridge where they now live and call home.
“We were living in Tamworth for a short time and we met a man who kept telling us about Lightning Ridge and the different sense of living it has,” Pauline said.
“We came here to see what it was all about, we loved it,” Eva said.
After spending some
time here, and visiting the
bore baths, Eva and Pauline
said they received a vision
showing them that they should establish a home here and
display the Ten Commandments.
There is no nationality or denomination associated with the commandments that have been erected.
“We just wanted to share with the town the Creator’s will and blessing,” said Eva.
“We don’t have any problems with the churches in town, we observe the Sabbath and follow the commandments,” said Pauline.
“It is the way we live our lives and nothing more.”
The stones were obtained from three-mile with the help of Lightning Leslie who delivered and helped paint them.
Eva and Pauline have planned to continue development on the project; beginning with improvements to the ground through the planting of flowers.
