It was a close encounter with faulty equipment last week that saw four fire trucks and the police take up positions surrounding the Snac Shack.
They responsed to smoke coming from the shop.
The incident was reported at 5.45pm on Tuesday May 26 and was put out before any serious damage could occur.
Snac Shack owner Greg Bateup reported that an electrician was called in while the firefighters and police were present and was able to indicate the fire’s cause, which was a faulty 10amp power board at the back of the shop.
At the time two freezers were plugged in and was only drawing on a total of 4amps.
“The fire was out before they got here,” Mr Bateup said.
“It was an extremely minor incident that could have been disastrous.”
“If this happened at one in the morning then whole place would have went up,” Snac Shack employee Donna said.
There was minimal damage to stock with nothing lost that wasn’t replaceable.
“We cleaned up and opened for business the next day”, said Mr Bateup.
This incident serves as a warning in the coming months to be careful of placing too much stress on power boards when keeping the home warm.
