End of school year awards

17 Dec, 2003 06:02 PM
Lightning Ridge Central School held its annual Presentation Day last Friday morning at the Bowling Club.

Students from Kindergarten to Year 12 received awards and trophies recognising their achievements throughout the year.

Local member for Barwon Ian Slack-Smith attended the day along with the mayor Peter Waterford and the district superintendent Ian McPherson.

Mr McPherson said presentation days were important in identifying students' achievements.

"These are really special occasions for us in the life of our schools because they are a chance for us to recognise the achievements of our students. We're proud of them as parents, as teachers and as community members because they're our future," he said.

"Schools are a place where we bring together and forge our Australian nation."

Principal Peter Partridge outlined the new structure of the school that is being adopted next year and called on all parents to crack down on absenteeism and lateness.

The managing director of Best Employment Graeme Marriett then announced the donation of $5000 to the school, and asked for it to go towards "the battlers", the kids striving to reach their potential.

"It's great to be able to come to a community and put something back into a community that has supported us so strongly," he said.
