Plans to please and pamper the women of Lightning Ridge are taking shape for the annual International Women's Day on March 8.
An early breakfast and an afternoon of workshops are some of the plans forming to celebrate the day.
As part of International Women's Day the Community and Technology Centre is running a storytelling competition designed to recognise the roles and place of women in our community.
'Tales My Mother Told Me' is about the recognising the expressions and social contributions women have made, and continue to make that are important parts of communities, families and workplaces.
Entries should be around 300 words and include a photo or image of some kind.
There is no charge to enter the competition and a digital camera valued at $1000 will be the prize in each age category. The age categories are under 25, under 55 and 55+.
Stories can be entered in the categories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, migrant, older, women as carers, women in the workplace, women from the past, women from the present, women with disabilities, women of culturally diverse backgrounds, women on the land, young women, maritime, working women, pioneer women or myths and legends, or entrants can create their own categories upon submission.
On International Women's Day there will be a morning tea at 10am where the stories entered will be on display.
Entries close Monday February 16.
