Close to 100 people participated in what was the first Cross Cultural Community Day for five years, at Spider Brown Oval on Saturday.
About half a dozen members from the local community made formal introductions in their native tongue.
This was followed by singing and dance performances from many of the children and later by an Aboriginal dancer who also gave some knowledge and insight into the background of their dances.
Organised by the Transcultural Community Council (TCC) and Yawarra Meamei Women's Group, TCC president Christina Johansson said the day went quite well.
"We hope to make it an ongoing day, to hopefully take place annually."
Mrs Johansson said she was happy to see many families with children attend the event.
"I received a few positive comments.
"Unfortunately though we weren't able to hold the games for the children and there were some difficulties with our ethnic broadcasting."
However, she said it was very kind of the community to cook their cultural dishes for everyone to share.
"I want to thank the UHA too for supporting us and the bowling club who helped us set up the stage and donate some food."
She said it was good to see both preschools and the Central School take part in the Cross Cultural Community Day.
"All parts of the community came together, especially members of the Aboriginal community joined in which was great to see.
"We hope to continue to celebrate Lightning Ridge's diversity next year."
