Council trains staff

05 Nov, 2009 12:42 PM
Approximately two-thirds of Staff and Councilors of the Walgett Shire Council have been completed their annual Code of Conduct training, a requirement for all local governments, which ensures all employees carry out their duties responsibly and by the book.

The program runs these public servants through a number of scenarios to help them develop the right understanding of how to resolve and issue. They are taught to be honest and about integrity and accountability.

Through the workshop they are educated on the policies regarding ethical decisions, complaints, conflicts of interest, public access to information and receiving gifts.

Following the policies requirements staff will be taken through the workshops annually, while each newly elected table of councilors will be taken through similar procedures with respect to their duties.

One more training session will be run in the near future to give the final members a run through the Code, completing the list with 131 qualified staff.
