Conditions of roads available on websites

01 Dec, 2011 09:21 AM
December 1 - that really snuck up didn’t it? While we’re all getting in Ho Ho Ho mode and counting down the days until we depart on holidays, or the family comes to us, we’re all also a little worried about the impending weather conditions and possible road closures. (You can’t drop into the Servo and buy a carton of milk without having a conversation or two about the roads!)

At the information centre we’re having numerous calls and visitors dropping in to get current road closure information so I thought I would share with everyone the best websites we have found for updated information.

For local conditions the Walgett Shire website is amazing, it’s updated at least daily and gives all roads within our shire, check it out on www.walgett.nsw.gov.au

We’ve all heard Moree is in a bit of strife and it’s a popular route for those coming and going from Lightning Ridge, get all the latest closures on their shire site www.mpsc.nsw.gov.au

As we are so close to the border Queensland conditions can drastically affect us, information can be found on http://highload.131940.qld.gov.au / a great all inclusive website for the Sunshine State.

Have fun planning your holidays and stay safe to those preparing to travel soon.

Quote of the week: “Thank you for your help - (we will) probably increase our stay!”

Visitor from Valla Beach, duration of stay unknown

Congratulations: Our best wishes go out to the Australian Opal Centre which had a reception at Government House yesterday - hosted by her Excellency the Governor of NSW.

The AOC does amazing things from its tiny shopfront and will be a colossal drawcard for Lightning Ridge once the centre is complete. Kudos to all involved.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss anything you read here, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the Visitor Information Centre on (02) 6829 1670.
