More than25 people, some with carers, attended the first visit to Home Care, Community Options, Community Transport, Meals on Wheels and Social Support.
The participants enjoyed the introduction of all the services during a morning tea.
There were questions concerning referrals to some of the services and all around everyone agreed that being introduced to services in this way was very helpful.
All these services at Lot 3 Pandora Street are funded by the Department of Family and Community Services of NSW and are run by co-ordinators Zuzana Sisa, Robynne White and Joanne Osborne with their great teams of care workers and volunteers.
Ana Cvejic-Vastag, TCC migrant support worker said: “As we have previously introduced, this project aims to bring people together from Lightning Ridge and the surrounding opal field camps to show availability and accessibility of local services.
“Especially as ageing and aged people with language barriers have difficulties in accessing local services, finding out which service can help where, managing referral procedures, or making appointments”.
This project was made possible by funding from the FRRR, Funding for Rural and Regional Renewal, under the specially supported program CARA - Caring for Ageing in Rural Australia
Ms Cvejic-Vastag explained that their next planned visit to the Community Health Centre on Wednesday February 8, will hopefully attract a nice crowd of people again.
“If you are an aged pensioner come to the Community Health on the day at 12pm or meet the bus at the Bowling Club car park at 11.45am,” she said.
“Look out for the announcements being distributed in town or call the number of the TCC 6829 2014 for more information or to book your transport/pick-up from home.
“If there are other service providers who would like to accommodate the visitors, please register on this email address tccinc@lightningridge.net.au
“C osts for transport and catering at each venue/visit are covered by the project funds.”
