The Lightning Ridge Community Lake project has taken a step forward with the formation of a club as a sub-committee under the Tourist Association.
The club is seeking support from the local community after already gaining support from Gwydir MP and deputy prime minister John Anderson and Barwon MP Ian Slack-Smith.
The project consists of a lake and park on the Westside reserve with the lake having a maximum surface aggregate of 20 hectares.
The lake will be used for all water sports including fishing and swimming.
The park will have a skate park, barbecue areas, children's swings and amenity block.
The newly elected representatives of the club are Kelly Tishler as president, Russell Holz as vice president, Peter McKenzie as treasurer and Karen Bruce as secretary.
One of the club's goals is to promote a healthier lifestyle for all ages while providing a fantastic facility for the children and youth of the community.
The club is now in the process of raising $10,000 for a hydrologist and surveyor.
Once the data is collected and a favourable outcome is met the club will proceed in obtaining funding from all sectors.
Anyone wishing to become part of the club can become a member for $5.
Payments can be made at Pace Electrical or Countrywide Tyres and Batteries.
All donations would be greatly appreciated and they can also be made at the above locations.
Meetings are held fortnightly and you can contact Kelly Tishler for more information on 0428 613 322.
The next meeting is at 7pm on Monday February 21 at Nobbies Hotel Beer garden, with everyone welcome.
