Christmas comes early for seniors

19 Nov, 2003 05:39 PM
Lightning Ridge senior citizens were given a special treat last Wednesday as the St Vincent De Paul Society put on a fashion show for their Christmas party.

The show was preceded by a Christmas luncheon, where everyone enjoyed a mountainous array of food.

Several volunteers including organiser Jan Hobden modelled several garments from the St Vincent De Paul clothing store for the pleasure of all.

Mrs Hobden said all senior citizens really enjoyed the day.

"We just put it on every year for their Christmas party.

"We only catered for 41 but 61 turned up, so next year we'll have to send out invitations I think. But they do enjoy it," she said.

"They liked the fashion parade part.

"They all get an assortment of lollies each.'

"It's a bit different from anywhere else I reckon, and they get a choice of a piece of clothing from the shop, they really like that too, as a present."

The Christmas party is for all those in Day Care and involved in Meals on Wheels, but the word spread around town like lightning and more than expected turned up.

"It sounds like there is going to be more coming next year, but we won't have enough room to cater for more than 50 or 60."
