Children enjoy Chinese New Year celebrations

25 Feb, 2010 01:58 PM
The children are celebrating Chinese New Year, the year of the Tiger.

We have a collection of Chinese jackets so the children are able to wear them. We have pictures and models of tigers, and the children are learning a tiger song.

We are cooking fried rice and noodles on alternate days and the children are discovering the difficulties of eating with chopsticks from small rice bowls.

We are also continuing our literacy program. The children now have their photographs on their writing cards to help them associate the written name with themselves. Some of the children have already mastered this but they still get a kick from seeing themselves on school work.

Children also enjoy having their names in songs so we play singing games involving them.

Each child is encouraged to respond when they hear their own name.

Thus they are memorising words, taking part in question and response games.
