Cabaret to celebrate Seniors Week 2004

17 Mar, 2004 05:10 PM
Lightning Ridge community members young and old are celebrating Seniors Week 2004 with an old style amateur cabaret.

It will be held at the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club this afternoon at 4pm and on Saturday night at 7pm.

The cabaret will include a variety of acts including stand up comedy, piano, singing, dancing, short skits and country singers.

The celebration is a family event in the style of the old cabarets, which was a time where everyone in the family went out together to enjoy a great night of entertainment.

A range of talented people from the community is involved in the cabaret, from a three year old to an 87 year old.

Entry is a gold coin donation with any proceeds from the event going towards the proposed Senior Day Centre in Lightning Ridge.

Organisers have urged everyone to come along and support those involved, and said it was a community effort and a community bonding event.

Organiser Christina Johansson said the event was to create awareness about seniors in our community.

"It's showing that seniors really do enjoy life," she said. Seniors week is a statewide event and runs from March 14 to 21.

The theme this year is 'The Best Time for Ages', with sub-themes, ‘The Best Time for Learning', ‘The Best Time for Adventure' and ‘The Best Time for Getting Together'.

So come along and get together with your friends and family by supporting what will be a great night of entertainment for young and old.
