Lightning Ridge Fire Brigade visited Family Day Care last Friday to drive home the message of fire safety.
Mark Thompson, Richard Hoffman, Bridgette Chave and Chris Callaghan from the local NSW Fire Brigade drove up in their fire engine to the delight of all the children present.
The aim of the visit was to practise a fire drill and teach the children and their carers the correct safety procedures in case of a fire emergency.
As part of the Family Day Care requirements each carer and the children in their care are required to practise at least two fire drills each year.
The fire officers showed the children a fire safety evacuation plan and taught the children what to do if there was a fire in the home.
They also urged the children to remind their parents every house should have its own fire safety evacuation plan.
They also showed the carers what to do if a child was ever burned.
Family Day Care runs five days a week with flexible hours.
It operates in a family environment and caters for children from babies to 12 years old.
Family Day Care is Centrelink subsidised and there are presently vacancies.
