Bougainvilleas are still available for purchase

28 Apr, 2004 09:34 PM
Once again the bougainvilleas are starting to make a show as you enter town.

The last plantings were made in March through a joint venture with the IBC committee and Best Employment. We still have about 95 plants available for the public to purchase as a family tribute to the project, or as a memorial to a loved one. These are already planted and doing well. To arrange this see Margo at the Westpac Bank or call at the Tourist Information Centre. A plant with a plaque is $25. Plant only $15.

In an effort to beat frosts this winter causing further setbacks, we want to cover the lot for the duration of the winter. This will require a large quantity of hessian or shade cloth. So if you have any remnants, old silo liners, or equivalent, please contact Eddie Webb, or Margaret Mansfield on 6829 1081.

Development of the Lions Park gardens

We are organised to start, but still awaiting a commitment from the shire in the next budget for the water system. It is our intention to involve the school and the community as much as possible in this establishment. The proposal is to have a place for tourists and families to enjoy time together, complete with an area for weddings, a pond, indigenous section, palms and other shrubs.

Donations from farmers of manure, old hay for mulching, can be dropped off in a designated place, adjacent to the fossicking area and near the garden area. If unsure enquire from the Tourist Information Centre.

I would especially like to pay tribute to Jim Morrison, John 1, John 2, Kevin, and Richard, who put their labour into our projects through the past several months. It is thanks to them that the bougainvilleas look so good, that we have a post and rail fence in the grounds of the Lions Park, and paving at the Tourist Information Centre.
