The Lightning Ridge Improvement Beautification Committee held its annual general meeting last Thursday night at the Bowling Club.
A new committee was elected with Eddie Webb taking over the presidency from David Lane and Margaret Mansfield remaining as secretary and treasurer.
Mrs Mansfield summarised the action taken by the committee throughout the year and said she hoped more work could be done next year.
She said despite the time and effort put into planting of the bougainvilleas, which was the main project for the year, it was disheartening to see how the frost had affected them.
The Bowling Club, the LRMA, the Hotel Motel and the Police Bush Safari all made large donations to the project.
The committee plans to plant more bougainvilleas next year after March and put protection on them against the frost.
The IBC is now also involved in the work for the dole scheme along with the Tourism Association, and so this will help with the gardening work that needs to be done around town.
The IBC is also building entrance pillars to the garden project at Lions Park.
It recently received a grant of $1250 from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal for the project.
They are planning to build a multicultural garden at the park, with plans to develop natural bushland and Aboriginal medicinal plants.
They are now just waiting on the instalment of a water supply before the start the project.
