Sirens blazed and lights flashed as the Variety Bash arrived in Lightning Ridge yesterday.
The Bash stopped over in town to take in the sights, have a rest and donate money to community organisations.
Variety, the Children's Charity, pulled up at Lightning Ridge Preschool yesterday with Super Hubert putting on a magic show, which provided lots of laughs and fun for the kids.
Appeals chairman Laurie Reiffel said Variety only heard about the preschool on Tuesday night over dinner.
"We were having dinner last night and someone mentioned this little school so we put the call around and we were able to raise $610," he said.
As well as coming to the preschool to provide some entertainment, Bash entrants also presented toys to each of the preschoolers.
Variety moves onto the Lightning Ridge Central School today where it will donate $5000.
Mr Reiffel said the charity had projected a total of $360,000 raised from the six day event.
"We have 52 entrants this year, but they raise the money before they leave, and the Bash is spent visiting schools, especially in remote areas like this one, and putting smiles on kids' faces," he said.
Mr Reiffel said the charity had a group of superheroes like Super Hubert who provided great entertainment and were about creating fun in every community they visited.
"What we are about are sick, disadvantaged and disabled kids," he said.
Mr Reiffel said Variety was about everyday people doing extraordinary things to provide for communities.
The Variety Bash started in Newcastle and travelled through Coonabarabran, Moree and onto the Ridge. It will visit Gulgong tomorrow.
