Artist’s unlucky shot at Bald Archy

11 Mar, 2010 09:49 AM
Local artist, John Murray, recently entered The Budgie Smuggler in the Bald Archy.

Created in 1994 as a parody of the Archibald Prize, the Bald Archy calls for comic and satirical images of well-known Australians such as Federal Opposition leader Tony Abbott.

Unfortunately Murray’s rare foray into portraiture was unsuccessful.

Murray said he was amazed by modern technology which was so advanced, it enabled the judges to select a painting without even removing the bubble wrap in which it was packaged and transported.

Murray said he was not unduly concerned however because the painting had been generating a lot of interest in his local gallery.

Local residents are encouraged to visit Murray’s gallery and see The Budgie Smuggler for themselves. For anyone interested, the 2010 Bald Archy Touring Exhibition will be in Brewarrina at the Brewarrina Information and Cultural Centre from September 3 to 26 2010.
