Vietnam Veterans Day on Monday also marks the anniversary of the Battle Of Lon Tan, one of the most notorious battles of Australia's' experience in Vietnam.
So it was appropriate that the opening of Lightning Ridges' finished War Memorial should occur on this day.
Veterans, family members and others who honour our countrymen's sacrifice, gather at the Lyons Park on Monday morning to see Walgett Shire Council mayor Peter Waterford unveil the new look memorial.
'Bushy' Bill Trevethan, who was responsible for finding the funds needed to complete the memorial thanked the Department of Veteran Affairs for a grant and the members of the now defunct Lions Club for their support.
"Some say it (the Vietnam War) was a conflict not a war. I don't know the difference," ‘Bushy' said remembering the fallen.
"It still gets you killed!"
