The Lightning Ridge Safe House will benefit from a campaign against domestic violence run by Marie Claire magazine.
The campaign, titled "Start Talking to Stop the Violence" is designed to raise awareness of domestic violence and support the victims of abuse.
Celebrities such as Sandra Sully, Christine Anu and Gretel Killeen are showing their support by publicising the campaign.
The magazine is selling T-shirts to raise money, with all sales being donated to the Women's Services Network (WESNET) which chose the Lightning Ridge Safe House to be the recipient of the funds.
Associate editor of Marie Claire Kerry Parnell said WESNET took some time to consider where the proceeds should go.
"They thought instead of sharing the donations with a number of groups it would be better to give them to the safe house in most need of financial assistance," she said.
WESNET chairman Pauline Woodbridge said Marie Claire wanted to speak to individuals and wanted the donations to go to a specific group instead of a national body.
"I think its great, when everything seems to be awarded to city organisations it's great to see something like this happen in a remote community like Lightning Ridge," she said.
WESNET has almost 400 members across Australia and represents a range of organisations and individuals including women's refuges, safe houses and information or referral services.
Lightning Ridge Safe House co-ordinator Ollie Chiu said through networking and meeting with peak bodies in Sydney the profile of the safe house was lifted.
"We got a call from Marie Claire and there was no hesitation from our end," Ms Chiu said.
Speaking to Marie Claire magazine, Ms Chiu said women come to the safe house because they have nowhere else to go.
"We provide the items they need, but demand for crisis services is so high, it's a struggle to make ends meet," she said.
Ms Chiu said with the donations the safe house could provide resources to help the children feel safe.
T-shirts can be purchased for $19.95, for stockist details call (02) 9290 0800 or you can make a donation by cheque payable to the Lightning Ridge Safe House.
The magazine has also organised the signing of a petition to force state governments to specify emotional abuse as a form of domestic violence.
