Plenty of fun for Easter

18 Mar, 2010 01:26 PM
Easter is on its way. The Lightning Ridge IBC will be running the Kidz Fun Jamboree at the IBC Gem Gardens on Easter Saturday again this year.

It will take place from 1pm to 4pm and is a great family fun day with something for everyone, including; the junior talent quest, scarecrow competition, novelty races, gum boot throwing competition, plaster mould painting, toddlers ball pit and story-telling for the littlies.

The junior talent quest kicks off at 1.30pm with vocal and instrumental sections for seven- 11 years and 12-16 years.

The winner of first prize will receive $50, while the person or group that comes in second will receive $25. It is time to start preparing your acts.

Entries in the scarecrow competition need to be submitted by 12pm on Easter Saturday so they can be placed on display by 1pm.

The scarecrows will be on parade at the entrance to the Gem Gardens until 12pm on Monday. The scarecrow competition entails an open category for the best garden scarecrow. This category has a $5 entry fee. The prize is $40 for first place and $20 to second place.

There is also a scariest scarecrow category with two sections for children aged under 16 - individual and group. Entry is free. First prize is $40 and second prize is $20.

And last, but not least, is a nursery rhyme scarecrow category for children aged under 16. Entry is free. First prize is $40 and second prize is $20. There is also a prize for the best scarecrow overall.

It is a half hour flight over Lightning Ridge and the Coocoran for two people and was generously donated by Wayne Holden. Now is the time to start working on your scarecrows if you want to have a shot at winning the major prize.

This is a no-alcohol event, but a sausage sizzle and soft drinks will be available for purchase. The Lightning Ridge IBC, however, is a very small committee and they cannot do all this on their own.

If you would like to supervise the kids’ races, plaster mould painting and toddlers’ ball pit, or read stories to the littlies, the Lightning Ridge IBC needs you. Please call 6829 1081 if you are able to offer any assistance.
