Gavin Johnston, a Year 11 student from Goodooga Central School, was one of 50 students from 13 schools across Western NSW to be selected to exhibit their artwork in iVisualise at the Western Plains Cultural Centre in Dubbo.
An arts initiative of the Western NSW Region of the Department of Education and Training, iVisualise is held annually to give aspiring young artists, from Kindergarten to Year 12, an opportunity to have their work professionally displayed in a highly reputed public art gallery.
The artworks on display are supposed to represent visions of the students’ dreams, lives and the world in which they live, study and play.
In his description of his artwork, entitled ‘The Bough Shade’, Gavin said, “this shade is a place to rest, to escape the sun, sit under the arms of the big tree and look around my country for a while. Thinking about my now, my place and maybe my future.”
The Western NSW Regional Director, Carole McDiarmid officially opened the exhibition, which is in its second year and continues to grow, on June 24. It will remain open until August 29.
