 Countdown to Walgett show

Countdown to Walgett show

29 Apr, 2010 08:58 AM
One week until it is showtime.

The Walgett Show is on Saturday May 8 and Sunday May 9.

Go through the photo box, bake that cake, check the preserves (make sure there is no mould under the lids), collect the eggs and raid the vegie patch and fruit trees.

Special note to the men to organise their entry for the Men’s Only Chocolate Cake and Scones sections (you have had plenty of time and encouragement).

Get the kids to enter the children’s cookery, handicrafts, pets and decorative (floral arrangements) sections.

Dressmakers and needleworkers, knitters and crocheters, sew, knit and crochet.

Handicrafters be handy.

Artists paint and photographers snap.

Home brew, wine and liqueur exhibits must be delivered to the NSW DPI Office by the afternoon of Friday May 7.

Farm produce exhibits can also be left there or delivered to the Leonard Pavilion on the Saturday of the show by 10am.

Please note all photography entries must be in to the show office by 5pm Friday April 30 - no exceptions.

Have a look at the show schedule for entry dates.

The lucky last entries might be place-getters or champion winners.

Don’t you critique your entries; let the judge do it for you.

You might be very surprised. Don’t be slack. Have a crack.

There will be an impressive range of market stalls at the show.

This year the stalls that should arouse particular interest include Elsy Rowe (jewellery); Phoenix Trading Funky Stationery; Wood-deco Picture Framing; Pearls for Girls; Bush Babes leather belts; Skin’N’Tonic (makeup, pedicures, manicures); The Good Sheep Handspun Wool; Duncan’s Fashions; Trish’s Opals; Lightning Ridge Opals and Jewellery; Kaszazz Scrapbooking; Shabby Chic Furniture and Giftware; and Kids of Dubbo (clothes and accessories).

There will also be a special stall for Erin McGrath (Ruby Cake), Sandie O’Keeffe (Haysie and Rose), Judy Newton (Home Bakes), Lucky Flats Lavender, Maya Neuman’s Hats of Sydney, Jodie O’Neill (Corrugated Iron Cutouts) and Dawn Gyford (My Munchkin Canvas Prints).

For the men, Faber Toolboxes will be there and a “Bloke’s Stuff” stall catering for farmers and handymen, and Geronimo will have a range of machinery on display.

There will be interactive displays associated with some of these stalls at the show, so check out the entertainment guide for more details if you are interested.

Walgett Show Society appreciates the support each year from the various community organisations that have displays and stalls at the show.

Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service will be there as usual offering their health checks.

SES and Rural Fire Service, Walgett Historical Society, the local Catchment Management Authorities, the list goes on.

This year National Parks will be there with show bags and activities for the kids.

Attention stewards and helpers, ring-ins and guests involved in setting up the pavilions and the working bee labourers - on Friday May 7, Coolibah Kids will be providing drinks, tea, coffee, smoko and lunch at the bar area as a fundraiser. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Financial members of Walgett Show Society are reminded that nominations for the BT Howard Memorial Achievers Award may be submitted at the secretary’s office at the show, up until 11am Sunday. The nominations should include reasons for the nomination and be based on performance of the nominee during this show year. For further information, please refer to page four of the show schedule. The BT Howard Memorial Achievers Award will be presented during the Quickshears competition, at about 2.30pm on Sunday.

The Quickshears competition is back on again this year after a successful run in 2009. Come to the grass area near the sheep pavilion, or you can watch the action from the bar, from 2pm on Sunday.
