Count down on to biggest event in town

There is only six weeks to go.

The count down has started for Lightning Ridge’s biggest event! The Opal Festival is a four-day celebration running from Thursday July 30 to Sunday August 1 and there are many ways you can join in the festivities.

Stallholders are travelling from far and wide to exhibit their wares at the Opal and Gem Expo. The Beer Garden is already booked out, and tailgaters need to get in quick to book an outdoor site.

Opal Queen contestants need to be over 18 years of age and a resident of Lightning Ridge for the last six months to enter the competition.

With a prize package worth more than $10,000 in jewellery and travel, now is the time to start planning your outfit.

The Opal Queen Ball is on Saturday August 1.

Tickets are $25 and are available at the door. As a highlight of the Lightning Ridge calendar, this night is not to be missed.

There will be all the glitz and glamour you have come to expect of this event, plus a few surprises are in store to entertain guests aswell.

The Opal Festival is shaping up to be one of the best on record.
