Students from Lightning Ridge Central School had their HSC major work for Industrial Technology marked on Tuesday.
Tori Weatherhead made a kid’s table and chair set out of Blackbutt plywood.
It features dovetail drawers, shelves for paper storage and inbuilt pencil holders. Tori is going to give the table to her sister for her children.
Josh Webb made his ping pong table out of Radiata pine and the top from MDF.
The table has alcoves for drinks and dovetail drawers for storing balls and bats. He is looking forward to taking the table home and entertaining his friends.
John Bladen’s timber bar is made from Radiata pine and Luarn pine.
The bar has room for a bar fridge and shelving for bottle storage. John’s mum can’t wait to get it home and put it in her kitchen.
Keeton Taylor’s sideboard is a display unit for music and DVD storage. He has made it from Radiata pine.
TAS teacher Chris Murray said he was very impressed with the students high standard of quality work.
“It is a culmination of the past three-and-a-half terms of hard work and effort. The students were constantly reflecting on their design and construction techniques trying to improve at all times,” he said.
“The students go through a number of steps to get to the finished product. Firstly they do research and create and generate ideas.
“They drew their designs by freehand and then with computer aided drafting. They then built scale models and sample joints as tests.”
Mr Murray would like to encourage you to come and see the wonderful work created by these four talented students at our local school.
These major works can be viewed at the school by the public on Friday from 9am to 12pm.
Come to the front office for directions.
