The Ridge Medical Centre with Ochre Health on Morilla Street has undergone some welcoming renovations, with the repainting and re-carpeting of the facility, but more importantly a second nurses room and new medical equipment have been added to the premises.
These new additions will help the new highly-qualified nurses, Cheryl Hilton and Melissa Cromarty, that travel from Maitland to Lightning Ridge to work two days in the clinic each week.
Practice manager Sandra Kuehn, said the girls provide a fantastic service for our clinic.
“Some of the medical services they provide are Aboriginal health checks for all ages,
diabetic care plus education, children’s immunisations including four-year-old health checks and Melissa is also qualified to do women’s health checks such as pap smears,” said Ms Kuehn.
Melissa demonstrated the use of the medical centre’s new purchase of a piece of equipment called an ABI machine.
“It is a screening tool to assist with identifying people at risk of peripheral artery disease, that can leads to blockages of the arteries. This machine has been a very important purchase for the practice,” said Ms Cromarty.
“Most people are unaware they could have this problem so this is a non-evasive early detection method.”
